Crimea State Medical State University
Crimea State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky is the institution of higher medical education situated in Simferopol, Russia . According to some independent estimations it is one of the best medical colleges of Russia. The history of Crimea Medical University dates back to the start of the 21st century. Earlier it was referred to as medical faculty of Taurida University in year 1918. In 1931 the institution was separated and started functioning as autonomous unit – Crimea Medical Institute. In year 1995, in honor of Sergey Ivanovich Georgievsky (rector of the institute in 1951-1970) it was named CRIMEA STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY. In 1998 the higher school was transformed into university with the 4th (highest) accreditation level.

About 4.7 thousand students study at the Crimea State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky, including 1.7 thousand foreign citizens from 40 countries of the world. Since 1999 English has been the second language of instruction, which makes CSMU attractive for foreign citizens coming here to study.

Crimea State Medical University is a prominent scientific and medical center of Crimea. More than 50 scientific themes are being carried out here, about 5–10 doctoral and 25–30 master’s theses are being defended annually. The university participates in 16 international research programs and publishes several scientific periodicals. The total amount of students is about 4700 (1700 students are foreign citizens, who study in English).

The territory of the university (without the clinical bases) occupies 17.3 hectares. It has 16 educational buildings, five hostels, covered track and field athletics arena, sport centre (with stadium and swimming pool), several cafes. The library fund of university is about 600,000 books. University has also its own publishing centre.
The Structure of the University
The University consists of six faculties: First Medical, Second Medical, Stomatologic, International Medical, Pharmaceutical and faculty of Postgradual Education. The university has 54 departments, medical college, 47 clinical bases and own clinic.
The staff of the university consists of about 700 teachers (c. 100 doctors of sciences and c. 350 candidates of sciences). 39 professors of the University are academicians and corresponding members of domestic and foreign Academies.
Most foreign students trained at Crimean State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky stay in comfortable hostels in the campus. The campus is built on the bank of the River Salgir in a five minutes’ walk from the educational buildings. On the opposite bank of the Salgir there is Gagarin park, the largest and most beautiful park in Simferopol, a favorite place of rest for the citizens and guests of our town.
Students who have just arrived are settled in Hostel No.2 on the territory of the University itself. Here during the first year of studies the students are adapted to life in Russia. On the ground floor of the same building there are classrooms of the preparatory faculty. The rooms in this hostel are for three or four persons. There is a shower room, two kitchens, a classroom on every floor. There are also several students’ canteens and cafes on the territory of the University.
Rooms in other hostels of the campus are intended for two or three persons. These hostels are of apartment type. Every apartment is for 3-5 persons and has a shower room and a lavatory.
On the territory of the campus there are food shops, 10 cafes of national Indian, Malaysian, Chinese and Arabic cuisine, several Internet-cafes, public telephones, a laundry, a sports ground and a special place for barbecue cooking. There is also a taxi park near the campus.
In Hotel No. 4 there is an electronic reading hall where students may visit the University site and get an approach to all the teaching and methodical manuals necessary to prepare for classes and exams.
Both the territory of the University and the main students’ routes from the hostels to the educational buildings are protected and patrolled by officers of guard service.
