Established in 1921, Belarusian State Medical University is one of the leading higher medical educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. The university specialises in medicine and dentistry and is located in Minsk. The university did not function from June 1941 to October 1943 due to the Second World War and reopened at the end of 1943 in the city of Yaroslavl. However, the institute returned to its former location in the city of Minsk in 1944.
