Established in 1921, Belarusian State Medical University is one of the leading higher medical educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. The university specialises in medicine and dentistry and is located in Minsk. The medical degree awarded by Belarusian State Medical University is globally recognized by the MCI, WHO, USMLE and many other leading medical councils of the world.
The university did not function from June 1941 to October 1943 due to the Second World War and reopened at the end of 1943 in the city of Yaroslavl. However, the institute returned to its former location in the city of Minsk in 1944. Over its 100 years rich history of producing competent medical professionals, Belarusian State Medical University ranks at the top of medical institutes in the country.
The university houses over 7,000 students including nearly 2,000 international citizens from around 50 countries. Moreover, the academic staff comprises nearly 1,170 professionals including professors, assistant professors, lecturers, etc.
Backed by 8 major faculties organized into 72 departments further divided into 29 theoretical departments and 43 clinical departments, the university has 5 education buildings, more than 70 clinical sites, a laboratory building with four scientific laboratories and one multi-storeyed residence hall.
Situated on the Svislach and the Niamiha rivers, Minsk is the capital and the largest city of Belarus that also serves as the administrative capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This picturesque city experiences a warm summer humid continental climate but has unpredictable and unstable weather many times due to the strong influence of the moist air of the Atlantic Ocean and the dry air of the Eurasian landmass.
