Established in June 1958 as China Medical College, China Medical University was founded in 2003 and is one of the best universities to pursue medicine abroad. Although a private university located in Taichung, Taiwan, China Medical University (CMU) offers an affordable tuition fee structure as compared to the private medical colleges in India.
The medical degree awarded by CMU is globally recognized by the MCI, WHO, USMLE and many other leading medical councils of the world. Moreover, the university enrols approximately 8,000 students including about 6,350 undergraduates, 635 postgraduates and 317 PhD students. Furthermore, the total student count includes around 1,500 international students.
In addition, the university houses approximately 530 teachers including 114 professors, 146 associate professors, 190 assistant professors, and 88 lecturers highly experienced in training medical students excellently. The university offers 21 bachelors degree programs, 26 masters degree programs, and 8 doctoral degree programs.
The university has two campuses, the first and the main one located in the northern part of downtown Taichung, close to the city centre and the other one in Beigang. The university includes seven colleges that have educated more than 90 thousand senior medical professionals since its founding. Moreover, there are three affiliated hospitals and one super-speciality hostel of the university - with more than 11,000 beds in total.
Both the university campuses feature well-equipped lecture halls, modern practical laboratories, large auditoriums, sports complexes, and massive libraries with approximately 1.2 million printed books and journals and 1.5 million E-journals collectively.
Furthermore, the university provides in-campus, spacious hostels to the international students with shared room facilities and all basic amenities. The girls and boys residential buildings are separate. International students from the 4th year are shifted to the off-campus hostel.
Taichung is a special Taiwanese direct-controlled municipality that serves as an important industrial, economic and cultural city on the western side of central Taiwan. This picturesque city is popular for its lakes, mountains, ancient buildings and museums.
The city experiences a warm humid subtropical climate bordering on a tropical monsoon climate throughout the year. Usually, the daytime temperatures are warm to hot throughout the year whereas the nighttime temperatures are pleasant.
Although there are not very significant or long winters in Taichung, July and August are the hottest months of the year with an average temperature of around 39.3 °C and January and February are the coolest with about 12.9 °C.
