Established in 1901, Shandong University is one of the largest and oldest public research comprehensive universities in Jinan, Shandong Province, China. Situated just northwest of Mount Tai, Jinan is the capital of Shandong province in Eastern China. It is the second-largest city in Shandong after Qingdao and serves as a major national administrative, economic, and transportation hub of the country.

The city experiences a humid subtropical or humid continental climate with four well-defined seasons. The summers are hot and rainy while the winters are cold and dry with occasional snowfall. With an average temperature of 27.5 °C, July is the hottest month whereas January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -0.4 °C.
