Avalon University School of Medicine

Established in 2003, Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM) is one of the most prestigious private medical schools located in Willemstad, Curaçao, in the Caribbean. However, the administrative offices for the university are located in Youngstown, Ohio. The university first laid its foundation in Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles and relocated to Curaçao in 2010.

The medical degree awarded by the Avalon University School of Medicine is the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and is globally recognized by the MCI, WHO, USMLE, IMED, FAIMER and many other leading medical councils of the world.

The curriculum for the MD degree spans four years and requires the first and second-year students to attend their classes on the Curaçao campus. Third-year students, on the other hand, must attend an eight-week course at the admissions office in Youngstown, Ohio, for clinical studies orientation, preparation for the USMLE Step 1 examination, and an overview of the US residency application process.

Passing the USMLE exam allows students to spend the remaining 18 months of their education in clinical clerkships in the United States, including 24 weeks of optional clerkships for fourth-year students. Ever since its establishment, the Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM) has been consistently ranking as one of the best medical universities in the world.
